Dirty Projectors at North Park Theatre this Friday
First things first, I love the Casbah. It's great living in a city where I get to see all my favorite touring bands against the same black vinyl wall with the same drinks from the same great bartenders and the same Ms. Pacman table between sets. But once in a blue moon a current band will play in one of San Diego's historic spaces and it's always a memorable experience to hear incredible music performed in a more formal setting. Last week I had the chance to see a magical three-hour set by Monsters of Folk in Spreckels Theater and although it makes me wish that shows at Spreckels were more frequent, there's something cool about having only a few holy memories in the space (i.e. Sigur Rós, Arcade Fire, Jeff Tweedy).
This Friday I will add a second memory to the Birch North Park Theatre, my first being a live feed of Obama's inauguration. One of our generation's most inventive bands Dirty Projectors will take the stage this Friday to perform a set for a (hopefully) seated crowd in a beautiful space with great sound. This is not only a unique show for our town, but a unique show on the tour. If you can, save your costumes for Saturday night. This is a one-time opportunity and tickets are still available here for only $15.
