Plastic Fantastic Opens at Subtext Gallery
"Cute But Desperate" by Gary Allard
In this digital age, lo-fi livin’ is the life for me. Keep my beer cold and cheap, my books used, and my cameras disposable. Without the polish and sheen of Photoshop, film cameras leave the print in the hands of photographic destiny, where light leaks and graininess give an honest moment it’s due.
Half the fun of film is waiting to see what develops, so while I appreciate photography of all styles and forms, I have a very special nook in my heart for 35mm and medium format.
Enter Plastic Fantastic, a group photography show and benefit auction presented by American Photographic Artists San Diego (APASD) held at Subtext Gallery this Friday, September 3rd from 6-10pm. For one night only, photographers will show images created with plastic cameras. Think supersaturated prints in soft focus, think accidental vignetting, light flares, and double exposures.
Also, San Diego jazz band Pocket will play at 9pm and part of the proceeds from the evening will go to The AjA Project.
