New Month, New Art
Even as Arts Month in San Diego is ending, October is starting with a bang. This Saturday, Helmuth Projects and disclosed unLocation are hosting two openings featuring sculptural work by local artists.
Located at the Library Lofts downtown, the newly opened Helmuth Projects will present STRICKEN, a real-time endurance installation by Jenna Morrow. For 24 hours Morrow will knit without stopping, a feat she describes as “an absurd attempt at a simple task” with the goal of “reducing control over the body and process so that the results are autonomous from the intentions." The performance will begin promptly at 6am on Saturday and The Scarf will be considered complete Sunday at 6am. If you can’t make this one, there will be a live web-cam feed, but the unique nature of this exhibit makes it an art event not to be missed.
Over in South Park, disclosed unLocation will present Partial Knowledge of Things, a solo show by Josh Jon Miller, a resident artist at Space4Art. Miller will exhibit an array of sculptures, figurines and paintings in the cozy 10'x20' gallery space. From the artist: “Objects are seen as autonomous things, made, used and forgotten but they are more like limbs and surrogates of the owner - physical and psychological parts of our identity.” disclosed unLocation will open its doors to the public from 6-10pm also on Saturday, October 1st.
