Joshua Krause has been preparing for a diverse solo show, opening this Friday at Subtext Gallery. Featuring artwork formed from collaged book fragments to experiments with laser cutting, "Simple Ways" sounds like a bit of a misnomer for the show. Regardless, it will be well worth checking out! Swing by 2479 Kettner Blvd. on Friday night between 6-10pm for the opening reception.

Wes Bruce has been holed up since is grand opening at LUX in October, creating a series of winter-inspired works for back to back openings in December. Bruce will take over Coffee & Tea Collective in North Park on Saturday, December 1st and then Bottlecraft is Little Italy on Saturday, December 8th. Cruise out to the art show in two parts, and pick up a unique holiday gift or just treat yo' self... Details on both openings can be found here.

Sezio hosted a special Election Night celebration at Luce Loft with one of our favorite bands, Dark Dark Dark. Ending their US tour in our fair city, it was good to see our Minneapolis friends back on the west coast. They brought with them some beautiful new songs from their sophomore LP Who Needs Who, and also the lovely Emily Wells to open up the show. Downtown this Saturday, both Space 4 Art and Helmuth Projects are promising a cerebral weekend featuring openings with works that range from dark and dense to illuminative and rhythmic.
Starting at 6pm, Space 4 Art will present Jamais Vu, featuring the work of accomplished Los Angeles artists, Michelle Carla Handel and Michael Arata, and locally renowned artist, Ernest Silva. Carefully selected works of sculpture, photos, and paintings will transfix viewers into a state of paramnesia or Jamais Vu which is a disorder of memory characterized by the illusion that the familiar is being encountered for the first time. Studios will also be open at this time, along with live onstage multimedia performances and of course, refreshments.
Nearby at Helmuth Projects, from 6-10pm imported artists Colin Tuis Nesbit and Bill Conger will debut The Strawberry Thief, their mysterious and multilayered exhibit. Named after 19th Century textile artist William Morris’ wallpaper pattern of the same name, this show intends to capture a moment in time wherein sculptural objects curated by Conger will enhance the experience of Morris’ pattern within a light-based work that attempts to recreate the visual sensation of moonlight as engineered by Nesbit.

We've been following Kelsey Brookes' Instragram account throughout the summer (@kelseybrookes), and have been continually amazed at the amount of paintings this North Park resident has been cranking out. Considering the detail and precision involved in his work, it's not a surprise Brookes jokes about the onset of carpal tunnel.
Kelsey has been preparing for a massive solo show at Quint Contemporary Art, entitled Serotonin; Happiness and Spiritual States. The opening went down on Saturday the 10th of November, but the show will be up until December 29th!
