Because it feels like a Monday (and I was in vacationland yesterday)..
A friend recently gifted me the new Grizzly Bear album and it is really beautiful. The new video for "Two Weeks" however, totally creeps me out. I can't help but think of the car sing along scene from Step Brothers when I see these guys faces. Can you spot the son all grown up?

The legendary annual Sasquatch Festival takes place in Washington State this weekend and I'm heading up to check in on the Northwest music scene and get a couple nights under the stars. I haven't been for a couple of years and although the festival is looking more like Coachella every year, the base idea of showcasing independent musicians, particularly those in the Portland and Seattle music communities, in a gorge-ous setting isn't gone completely. I'm looking forward to sets from Animal Collective, Of Montreal, The Dodos, Grizzly Bear, M. Ward, and hopefully some new favorites. There are a few disposable cameras in my suitcase and I'll be bringing evidence of the weekend back to share with the Southerners.

Nine of San Diego's finest Architects & Designers were allotted a room in MCASD's La Jolla compound, each team given free reign to create and install at will. We popped in Friday afternoon to find the museum in complete disarray, yet filled with tons of creative energy. Each room had something completely different going on, from fastening models to the wall to mixing cement (pictured below). This exhibit celebrates the process and artistry behind making our city and every day lives interesting and beautiful.
MIX opens Thursday at MCASD, La Jolla. The evening starts at 7pm and is free for Members, $10 for guests.

Though Calico Horse has recently become a staple at all our favorite San Diego venues, we're about to be reminded not to take good things for granted. Emily is moving to San Francisco in a couple weeks and although the band is not calling it quits, we'll have to get used to not seeing them on any bills for a while. Come by tonight to see Emily off and catch the last Calico set for the next bit.

Not too long ago I posted the song "Old Panda Days" from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and fell in love with their music. Spent e-mailed me their video for "White Corolla" and I'm now in love with illustrator/animator Julia Pott. Check out the video then visit Julia's etsy site for a sweet postcard.
