Sezio Travels North for Thread SF

With Thread's San Francisco show falling the weekend before Thanksgiving, Sezio was provided the perfect excuse for a road trip to The City to reunite with our Nor Cal bretheren.  Wes and Zack packed the grocery-go-getter to the brim with fresh screens and AA blanks, hoodies and scarves while the girls (Carly & Greer) sipped cocktails at 30,000 feet.  Typical. 

After meeting up with Dustin, Kyle, Taggart, Heine and Gretchen, the following 48 hours were packed with late night dance parties, fort-building, art-making, pizza orgasmica and a lot of hungover screen printing.

MVM : The XX

I am super bummed to have missed The XX when they rolled through San Diego over the weekend. I even contemplated staying another day in San Francisco so that I could see them tonight at the Independent. Alas, I am back in the cubicle slaving away after a surreal weekend in the City where inspiration was aplenty. When the gang and I drove up and over the hill via Fillmore to Thread show, we played these songs.

Kelsey Brookes : Bigger, Brighter, Bolder

When we visited Kelsey Brookes' South Park studio back in April, he was just embarking on a series of large paintings destined for the pristine white walls of Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla.  This afternoon we got to preview his almost finished pieces for the opening of 'Bigger, Brighter, Bolder' this Friday.  I'm convinced that Kelsey can only achieve this level of hyper detail because he himself is very laid back and nonchalant.  The twelve pieces in this show are absolutely mind blowing, and something that everyone in San Diego should see.

Kelsey Brookes : Bigger, Brighter, Bolder opens at Quint Contemporary Art Friday, November 20th from 6-8pm and will include musical performances by The Dabbers and Lion Cut.

Peter, Bjorn & John : Whistling Contest

I'm sure most of you remember Peter, Bjorn & John's smash hit Young Folks, and most likely had the whistling intro stuck in your head for months when the song debuted a couple years back.  Well here's your chance to whistle your way into some free tickets to their House of Blues show.  The Swedish three piece will host a whistling contest before their Wednesday (11.18) San Diego show, the winners gaining free access and an invitation to showcase your whistling skills on stage with the band!

MVM : Gil Mantera's Party Dream

This weekend, the girls and I headed up to LA for what we claimed to be Vision Quest 2009. We shopped Melrose, slept in a gaudy hotel suite with a round bed, popped champagne poolside, and journeyed to Spaceland for the celebration that is Gil Mantera's Party Dream. Gil and Ultimate Donny did not disappoint the crowd surfing, shiny spandex wearing mob of people and when one of our own was grabbed and kissed by Donny mid song, our quest was realized.
