MVM : The Growlers

As evident in the above video (and pretty much all of their videos), The Growlers are some odd dudes who play surf-inspired rock.  Fresh off their newest release, Hot Tropics, we're excited to host the Long Beach natives at The Casbah later this month. Wednesday, December 29th Sezio presents The Growlers with two of our home town favorites, Little Deadman and Writer.

Grab your tickets early, and save a couple bucks...

Family Wagon : Teleblaster

Local garage-rockers, Family Wagon, are set to release their debut album this Monday night at The Casbah. I've heard rumors of their raucous live show throughout the year, but I haven't caught this four piece live yet. I think Monday will serve as a proper introduction. Joining them will be Dead Feather Moon, and San Francisco's Stone Foxes. Tickets are $10 at the door, and will probably move quickly.

Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then

Brent Green brings his first feature film to the Museum of Photographic Arts this Sunday, December 5th. Based on the tragic yet inspiring true story of Leonard Wood, Green gives the following synopsis:

"Leonard and Mary meet in a car crash. They fall instantly in love, and live happily ever after…until Mary gets sick. Desperate to save her, Leonard decides that if he builds a house for Mary, it will heal her. Inspired by the real actions of the eccentric Leonard Wood, filmmaker Brent Green brings to life this love story like no other in his first feature-length film.  Shot entirely on the full-scale town he built in his backyard, Green combines animation, stop-motion and live-action in an ethereal opus to lovers and tinkerers everywhere."

The screening will have a live score, performed by a five-piece which includes the former drummer of Fugazi. The screening starts at 8pm, with a recption and cocktails provided by Alchemy and Karl Strauss prior to the film. Admission is $10 and can be purchased here or the night of at MoPA's box office.

MVM : MillionYoung

Following in the footsteps of fellow East Coast chill-wavers Toro y Moi and Washed Out, MillionYoung is fronted by South Florida's own Mike Diaz. He's released a couple free, incredibly catchy EPs on his website, and it appears that a full lenght is on the horizon. Get familiar with a few of his jams before MillionYoung hits The Casbah next Tuesday (12.07) w/ Teen Daze.

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone Bids Farewell, Tour With Donkeys

Owen Ashworth has been constructing home-made beats under the moniker Casiotone For The Painfully Alone since 1997. His list of collaborators over the past 13 years is lengthy, including San Diego's own Donkeys for a few tours, a split 7 inch, and a couple Daytrotter sessions. As Owen prepares to put CFTPA to rest, he's scheduled a fairwell tour which kicks off this Friday at Soda Bar. Secure your tickets here, and check out some of our favorite Casiotone clips from over the years...
