Wes Bruce's Giant Fort : Update #1

It's a beautiful thing, to watch someone completely dive in.  To watch someone fully immerse themselves in what they are doing, to live and create in the very second they're embracing.  I've had the great pleasure of watching Wes Bruce do this for the last two years.  From our first show with him at Cream, to Conspire, to the woods of UCSD and now to the California Center for the Arts.  Wes' true art is in the way that he lives his life, and thus everything he does and creates is an expression of that art.  Wes has the most contagious excitement and creative energy I've ever encountered, and it pleases me greatly to introduce his newest and by far largest project to date.

If Wes Bruce was trying to get famous for his art, the last thing he would do is collect a bunch of junk and spend time building forts in sewers and gulleys.  Wes is simply being a kid, and exploring his curiousities and passions, and from that comes an artform that resonates beyond compare.  Stay tuned for more updates on Wes' Giant Fort, and let's all take a cue from Mr. Bruce and his zest for life.

Wes' installation will open Saturday, August 14th at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido as a part of Leveled: An Interactive Expirement In Art.

Tijuego Street Art Bike Tour

Join Sezio, Set & Drift, and Turista Libre for a bicycle-powered street art tour of Tijuego (Tijuana + San Diego). The tour will be split into two rides and will visit urban art installations decorating both of our sister cities.

TJ Ride // Saturday, July 31 // 1:00 pm
Meet at the gates on the South side of the pedestrian border crossing in Colonia Federal. After-party at Pop Diner starting at 4pm

SD Ride // Sunday, August 1 // 11:00 am
Meet at Urban Outfitters, Hillcrest by the OBEY mural
The ride will conclude at MCASD Downtown at 2pm
After-party at Super El Camino in Little Italy at 4pm

Photo Scavenger Hunt
We're encouraging all participants to document this ride, and the art we'll experience along the way. After the weekend, upload your photos to Flickr and email the set link to info@sezio.org. We'll choose two winning albums, one based on quantity of photos and one based on quality photos. Each winner will be granted a one year membership to Sezio and to MCASD, along with gift certificates to El Camino and El Take It Easy.

Border Crossing Details
We recommend taking the trolley to the border. If you choose to drive, park at San Ysidro and cross through the first turnstile into Mexico. Walk down the promenade with a mural on the right and a row of official-looking teller windows on the left. Soon thereafter you'll come to a fork where you can keep going straight or turn right. Turn right, go through the second turnstile, and we'll be right there on the other side waiting for you.

Bike to the Museum Day @ MCASD
The SD Ride corresponds with Bike to the Museum Day at MCASD's downtown location, and the Viva La Revolucion exhibit. A free bike valet will be provided at the TNT location (across from the museum). Your bike valet ticket will be good for 1/2 price museum entrance and for a 2 for 1 drink special at the El Camino after-party.  If you can't make the 11am start time, you can meet us along the way.  Here is our route.

Polaroids From Station Tavern

On the one day of blistering heat thus far this summer, Station Tavern hosted a collaborative event put on by Threadless, Holiday Matinee and yours truly.  While printing neighborhood tees, we snapped through a half full black and white disposable and a couple rolls of Polaroid film.  Check out a few examples below, the full album is over on our Facebook page.

Check out the rest of the pics on our Facebook page.

Randall Christopher's "Bear and Fox"

As the madness of Comic Con approaches San Diego, we'd like to introduce you to a good friend and local comic maker named Randall Christopher.  There's no doubt you been stuck behind Randall's fro at a concert before, as he is a big supporter of the local scene, but recently Randall asked the local community to support him and his comic making efforts.  With the help of Kickstarter.com Randall raised close to $2,000 to print the second issue of Bear and Fox, a light hearted tale depicting the adventures of a bird and a snake.

Tonight at the Tin Can Ale House will be your first chance to pick up a copy of issue #2.  Whether you supported Randall on Kickstarter or not, a free copy will be handed to everyone who comes out to the release party (although fiscal supporters get a handful of original sketches too).  So before the madness of Comic Con begins, and you find yourself partying your ass off at Hard Rock trying desperately to squeeze into your 7th grade Wonder Woman costume, come out to Tin Can for a mellow beer, a comic book, and a couple animal related DJ sets.

MVM : Crocodiles

Last week Crocodiles dropped their first music video off their sophomore release, due out this September via Fat Possum.  The title track of the new record, Sleep Forever, showcases the bands relatively new five-piece lineup behind a haze of psychedelic color.  Check out the video below, and grab the MP3 if you're into it.
