Mike Maxwell : Extra Sensory

Mike Maxwell has been a busy man in twenty-eleven, interviewing various movers and shakers from across the creative landscape by day and preparing for a solo show at Subtext Gallery by night. Maxwell's recent body of work has been influenced by his resurgent interest in spray paint and quicker pieces, yet still contains the vibrant color and detail he's known for. Keep up with Maxwell via his Flickr Page and his Live Free Podcast, and make sure to mark Friday, May 20th on your calendar.

Kettner Openings : Subtext & Jett Gallery

Publisher and art organizer, Mark Murphy, has a solo show of his own opening tonight at Subtext Gallery. Murphy has created over 50 pieces for the show, including linoleum prints, watercolor, jewelry, and letterpress.

South on Kettner one block, Jett Gallery is hosting a stacked group show featuring works inspired by the late Los Angeles-based writer Charles Bukowski. I'd show up early if you want to see any art, this one is going to be a rager by 8pm I'm assuming.

Kelsey Brookes Explores Berlin

Kelsey Brookes spent part of last November in Berlin, Germany for an opening at Circleculture Gallery. Followed around by his friend, "the Dutchie", Kelsey explored abandoned train stations and furthered his use of glitter and miniature paint brushes. The Dutchie put together a great trip recap / artist profile on Kelsey that can be viewed below.

Next Wednesday (04.13) we'll be hosting Kelsey as our guest DJ at Starlite for Sezio Wednesday. Cruise out for a Mule and to hear some tunes that Kelsey's been jamming in the studio lately.
