With the reality of a long rainy work week ahead of me, I have turned to the music blogs for some new music recommendations. To get me moving, I just downloaded the album Acolyte by UK band Delphic. Here is their music video for "This Momentary."

Before Christmas, Writer hosted a gathering of ugly wool at Whistlestop to celebrate the premier of their new music video. Months prior Brad Kester and Daniel Cretton traveled to Mexico with the brothers Ralph, so Andy could get some sun on his ghostly upper thighs.
Their trip south and the video premier were both phenominal successes. I'm still not sure how Brad and Daniel pulled off some of the shots in this video, but it is truly amazing footage. Enjoy* Four Letters from Writer.

John Meeks is a perfectionist. I know this because he has been a musician his entire life, yet he's still putting the finishing touches on his debut album, entitled Old Blood. Recording drums, guitars and vocals, John has put the last couple years into this record, and it seems to be worth the wait. Been Down by Love is our first peek into his musical laborings. Check out the video below and then go download the single on iTunes.
John Meeks and his incredibly accomplished backing band play Subtext this Friday, January 15th at 8:30pm.

The Donkeys have been hidden away in the studio lately working on another record but the ghosts of their last few tours are still showing up. On New Years Eve, their new Daytrotter Session was posted, making them one of very few bands to record three times in the Illinois studio. Their first two sessions were done in the spare minutes after recording as the backing band for Casiotone For The Painfully Alone. The delicious new batch of songs is from their first Donkeys-only visit to Daytrotter and includes the previously unreleased "Nu Blu Stocking" that I remember sweetly filling the walls of the Luce Loft back in March.
The Donkeys headline at Casbah on February 19th with local friends.

I started my Monday back to work with a fender bender right outside my home on the street I live on. Sometimes my hood makes me sad, but more often than not, I'm givin up all my love for the city. Glad to see Sugar & Gold doing the same in this new music video for "Neighborhood."
