M. Ward has spent the last couple years backing Zooey Deschanel in She & Him, while his solo project sat on the shelf for a bit. She & Him is lovely and all, but let's be serious - M. Ward released Post-War, one of my favorite records all of time. Needless to say we were excited to hear that M. Ward will be making a trip down to San Diego in between his two Coachella performances. On Monday, April 16th the Belly Up will host this rare performance on the heels of his new release A Wasteland Companion (due out April 10th on Merge Records).
Grab your tickets to the show here, and check out M. Ward's newest single "The First Time I Ran Away" below:

Almost two years ago exactly, Bowerbirds played an intimate set to a packed house at The Loft at UCSD. Touring on their sophomore release, Upper Air, the North Carolina folk act was definitely making a name for themselves at the time, but still on the brink of being 'full time musicians'. I had the chance to chat with Phil and Beth after the show, hearing about their plans to build a cabin in the woods, while picking up some freelance graphic design and other odd jobs to get by. As the mini-doc below portrays, the cabin has come along nicely, but not without some trials along the way.
As Bowerbirds return with their third record, everything is more polished and professional, from the production and the complex, layered songs to the general outlook on the band. Beth relayed in an email "we're trying to actually not lose money on this band, for once." Recorded at Bon Iver's Wisconsin studio, and at home in North Carolina, The Clearing leads off with the two stellar tracks below. Have a listen, and be sure to grab tickets now for their show at The Casbah on Sunday, April 8th. You can also pre-order Bowerbirds' new record on sleek white vinyl here.

The Vision of a Dying World began with two brothers, both bursting at the seems with creative energy that was smothered by Sin City. Moving out to San Diego with their child hood friend Jeremy Scott, Jackson and Keith Milgaten soon met drummer and artist Jona Tellez-Giron. The four of them rounded out Vision's live band for the next few years, playing countless SD shows and touring the West coast and Southwest.
In the latter half of this past decade, each of the four members started to focus on various side projects -- The Paddle Boat, Jamuel Saxon, Falling Trees to name a few. Jackson would occasionally be lured to play a solo Vision set, but has mostly focused on Cuckoo Chaos the last couple years. What will end up being the band's last full line up show is documented below: Night one of Four Day Weekend in 2010 at Sushi Art.
Tonight, Jackson and Jeremy will close Vision out in style with a stripped down set at Luce Loft in San Diego's East Village. Doors at 7pm, Vision goes on at 8pm, followed by NO from Los Angeles. The show is ALL AGES and $5 bucks.

The fine gentlemen of Cuckoo Chaos had the privilege of recording a session with the Daytrotter crew while out in New York for CMJ. Their ultra-clean rendition of four tracks off their debut album Woman posted today on the popular MP3 site. Stream their four song set here.
Catch Cuckoo Chaos downtown at the Moniker Warehouse on February 18th.
