Hardly Strictly is a free three-day anomaly brought to the fine citizens of San Fran by either the Masons, Big Oil, or Urban Outfitters. Honestly, I have no idea how this thing is funded, but as a recent bay area resident: thanks! And as a proclaimed skeptic of most music festivals, I am glad to report that it went off without a hitch—which, considering the status and amount of acts performing (Connor Oburst, Sharon Jones, the Avett Brothers, Elvis Costello, MC Hammer…), compounded by the non-paying, booze brandishing crowds, is really saying something. The festival was composed of around 7 or so stages, set within the lush dunes and misty cypress trees of Golden Gate Park. Read More...

I was fresh off of work, and the faint odor of grease, coffee and sweat mingled with annoyance lingered on my skin and hair. On my break, like a non-discerning animal I ate a ruined Papas Locos under a stairwell. Last Thursday, San Diego artist, Neko, packed up his paintings and headed north for Upper Playground’s opening of “The Spencer Little and Neko Fart Show.” Teaming up with one of his childhood friends, Spencer Little, the two bombed and skated their way up the coast to Sacramento. Sezio had a chance to hang out with Neko in studio and ask him a few questions before his journey north. Read More...

Before The Donkeys were selling out along the west coast with The Hold Steady, playing the Fillmore, or listening to Native American radio along the open roads of New Mexico, we caught up with them at the studio to sneak a peek of their new record. In usual Donkeys' style, the night consisted of good cheer, Bud heavies, and cosmic jams, with a photo shoot in the men's john somewhere in between. Now, a few months later, we've caught up with them again, en transit for their fourth tour this year, to chat about the new tunes, as well as to hear some tales from the road. Read More...
