I A Not A Hipster : SD Premiere

The film we've all been waiting to see, Destin Daniel Cretton's I Am Not A Hipster, will make its San Diego premiere at the Museum of Photographic Arts on Friday, May 11th.  After debuting at Sundance, and getting rave reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone, I Am Not A Hipster will return to its home turf.  The feature length film is set in San Diego's art and music scene, highlighting quite a few local bands and musicians throughout the film and soundtrack.  Destin also enlisted Joel P West to compose the film's original score and write an album's worth of songs for the film's main character.  That side project has been dubbed CANINES, and you catch a rare live performance from them at the San Diego premiere.

On Friday, May 11th MOPA, San Diego Film Festival, and Sezio will host a double screening of I Am Not A Hipster, at 6pm and 9pm.  In between screenings there will be a cocktail reception and a live performance from CANINES.  Grab your tickets here, and don't wait, we are expecting the evening to sell out.  If you haven't seen the trailer, you can view that below.

Habitat House : Birthday Show

Habitat House is returning from winter hibernation this Monday to open their first art exhibit of the year. Birthday Show features two bay area artists, Andrew Heine (left) and Eric Taggart (right), on their actual birthday, April 30th. These two former San Diego residents are near and dear to our hearts, as they were both influencial players in Sezio's formation in the early 2000's. Their contrasting styles will be on display from 6-10pm Monday evening at 1008 21st Street. Cruise out to see their new work and partake in the evening's dialogue.

Photos : St. Vincent & Tune-Yards

St. Vincent and Tune-Yards took a quick jaunt Southwest from the Indio Polo Grounds of Coachella to absolutely blow away a packed crowd at the House of Blues on Wednesday night.  Sezio photographer Dylan Glickman was there to capture the evening. Check out a selection of photos below, and even more in our Facebook album.

MVM : Tune-Yards

People have two general reactions to the music of Merrill Garbus and Tune-Yards; they either don't get it and find it mildly annoying, or they are mesmerized by the complex layers and rhythms and are absolutely obsessed with it.  I fall into the latter category.  I can't stop listening to these three songs below, they are just so damn good and incredibly unique.

I was bummed to miss her performance at Soda Bar last year, so you can count on me being at House of Blues this Wednesday (04.18) where Tune-Yards will co-headline a show with St. Vincent.  You can grab tickets to the All Ages show here, and check out some amazing videos produced by Yours Truly below.
