Helmuth Projects : Peached Out

This Friday, Helmuth Projects will host the opening reception for Peached Out, celebrating the month-long artist residency featuring new work by Lindsay Preston Zappas and Hess.

Both artists have been fixtures in the San Diego art community, showing often before moving out to Michigan for grad school where they participated in the same Sculpture program at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Hess recently graduated and Lindsay will return in the fall to finish her second year. Peached Out serves as a type of homecoming for the two, a summer vacation spent in the same room in a city they used to live and work in.

As a show, Peached Out is bright and weird, exploring the Southern California aesthetic and landscape in two specific but complementary styles. Both girls gathered materials from dollar stores and home depot and created directly in the space, where their distinct methods and approaches literally rubbed elbows in Helmuth’s 500 square foot studio.

For almost a year, Helmuth Projects has proved a magnet for wandering artists and projects, hosting month long residencies and weekend exhibitions. A wide spectrum of work has been shown, with many more openings planned during this calendar year.

The opening reception for Peached Out is this Friday, June 6th from 6-10pm. Helmuth Projects is located downtown at 920 E Street, Suite 103, San Diego, California 92101.

Wes Bruce : Structures Poetry Humans

The last time Wes Bruce was given the opportunity to build a giant stucture (a 2,000 square foot fort at the CA Arts Center), he filled the 25 rooms with photos, artifacts, and memories from his own childhood, and from various abandoned homes around the United States.  For his latest project and structure, Wes and a variety of collaborators will be gathering new content, and counting on you to help create and influence this expansive project.

Structures Poetry Humans is a year-long exploration, adventure, and art project made possible by an artist grant from the San Diego Foundation and Lux Art Institute.  Wes Bruce is relying on his friends as well as total strangers to dig up memories, photos, and emotions about important structures in their life, and to forward them his way via post.

Meanwhile, Wes and friends will be collecting images and thoughts of their own throughout the year, recording them in daily calendar posts on the project's amazing new website - StructuresPoetryHumans.com.  Dig deep into this new adventure, and we really hope you choose to participate!

The project will culminate in a new structure which will be constructed from scratch and built on the bluff above the beautiful Lux Art Institute in Encinitas.  Save October 25th on your calendar and get involved with Structures Poetry Humans right here!

Golden Hill Street Fair : July 22nd

Sezio is delighted to announce our participation and curation of the revived Golden Hill Street Fair, coming up on Sunday, July 22nd.  After an eight year hiatus, the Greater Golden Hill Community Development Corporation reached out to Sezio (whose offices are located in Golden Hill) to help them relaunch the street fair.  Both parties agreed that we should celebrate Golden Hill's rich artistic community by highlighting local musicians, artists, and businesses.

With many of our favorite bands and musicians living within blocks of 25th street, our choices for the main stage were pretty easy.  Drum roll please...

5pm - The Donkeys
4pm - Cuckoo Chaos
3pm - The Tree Ring
2pm - Little Deadman
1pm - Jeans Wilder
12pm - Family Wagon

Complimenting the music, there will be live screen printing with Golden Hill based artist collective Yeller, along with an interactive art wall hosted by Artist & Craftsman SupplyStone Brewing Co. will host a craft beer garden, NewGrass is setting up a pop-up park, and local grub will be provided by Alchemy, Giorgino's and MIHO Gastrotruck's latest endeavor, Stand & Delivery.  There will also be a courtesy Bike Valet run by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, so ride your bikes!

The Golden Hill Street Fair is going down Sunday, July 22nd from 11am to 6pm on 25th Street between B St. and C St.  The event is FREE and open to ALL AGES! We hope to see you there!

This event is made possible by the City of San Diego, through their Economic Development Tourism Support Grant.

Photos : The Tree Ring @ Luce Loft

The Tree Ring amazed all of us last week at Luce Loft, performing new material for the first time and with an expanded line up featuring some fine musicians from Camarada.  Friend and collaborater Wes Bruce spent his evening climbing all over the loft taken photos from every angle.  As you'll notice in the pictures below, the evening benefitted greatly from a beautiful light installation courtesy of Typewriter Boneyard.
