We just received some sad news this morning that the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will be temporarily suspending their monthly TNT (Thursday Night Thing) program and film series. After April 2nd, we will be TNT-less all summer until November 5th.
These changes are being made due to the effects of the economy on the Museum. As I’m sure you can imagine, hosting these events can be quite costly especially when considering that TNT admission has always been free with a $3 suggested donation. That said, be sure to attend the last monthly TNT which will take place on Thursday, April 2, with the theme The Shape of Things to Come, inspired by the new exhibition Primary Forms: Illuminated and Opaque (opened March 15 at the downtown 1001 Kettner galleries). Psychics will meet Spirographs as TNT examines the shapes of things andthe shape of things to come. Geometry-themed crafts and a range of fortune-telling activities will be on hand, as well as live music by Lights On, The Traditionist, and The Color of Glass. For more information, please visit MCASD’s website.

Our pal Erik Otto just sent over a few pieces he's been working on for his first solo show on the right coast. If you're in New York over the next month, swing into DOMA Cafe & Gallery and check out the work. (or you can visit Erik's site)

If you haven't checked out SUSHI's new space yet, this weekend would be a good time to do that... Located on the corner of 11th & J, next door to Luce Loft, SUSHI hosts a wide variety of art, music and performanced based evenings. The description of their next show sold me immediately; read more about this Saturday's Post-Card show below.
Postcards are purveyors of visual information. Often times the brief missive on the stamped side of the card references the image on the other side "Wish you were here!" or "X" marks the spot. It's a short cut and a snap shot. Postcards are, so to speak, the original "Text Message"; a way to say that you are thinking of someone; a friendly wave at a distance. At this point postcards may seem anachronistic; a vestigial tail on snail mail. But, like vinyl records, super-8 movies and V-8 engines, they have a resilient charm and poetic resonance that seems to resist the march of insistent progress.
Fourteen artists make work in the context of cheap, disposable, anachronistic postcards. Participating artists include Eleanor Antin, BULBO, Kelly Coyne, Randall Christopher, Nina Katchadourian, Wendell Kling, Erik Knudsen, Jean Lowe, Hugo Lugo, Kim MacConnell, Irma Sofia Poeter, Einar and Jamex de la Torre, and Allison Wiese.

My friend sent me this terrible-in-a-good-way music video a while back and I can't get it out of my head. Here is the video from Etienne Daho for "Bleau Comme Toi" circa 1988. You've gotta appreciate all of those special effects.

If you're looking for something to do inside on this rainy day, check out the awesomely random Calico Horse Blog on their recently re-designed website. Read through Emily and Petti's banter and write them a bio if you have a minute. And when the internet leaves you bored and lonely, stop by Subtext and pick up a ticket to see them at our Live at Luce Loft series on March 28th.
