The Dodos Play Casbah Monday

Last march, I caught The Dodos at Bar Pink en route to thier coming out party at South by Southwest.  Having just released Visiter, their second full length, The Dodos were the buzz band in Austin that spring.  Tomorrow the San Francisco based Dodos return to San Diego with their latest record, Time to Die.  Check out the opening track below and cruise out to The Casbah Monday night.

San Diego Film Festival Kicks Off Tonight

While most of the nation looks at crisp air and colored leaves as signs of the coming autumn, we look for red carpet.  The San Diego Film Festival is back and tonight the film Like Dandelion Dust will play at Gaslamp Theater to kick off four days of parties, schmoozing, special events and, of course,  films from all over the world in all sorts of genres.  Since September for us means extra-hot weather, check out the lineup to find a film or two to catch in the Gaslamp's finely air-conditioned theaters (and if you didn't get a chance last year to see Short Term 12 before it went to win Sundance, you can see it Thursday at 6 PM in the SDSU showcase).  Schedule, ticket information, and more at sdff.org.

MVM : Portugal. The Man

This has to be the weirdest music video I've seen in awhile. Check out Portugal. The Man's "Do You". Weirdness for the sake of being weird? Perhaps, but it is a good song regardless. Thanks Ryan Rothermel.

Portugal. The Man plays Belly Up Monday, September 28th.

PARK(ing) Day 2009 - San Diego

On Friday September 18th, Sezio and Holiday Matinee participated in PARK(ing) Day -- an international sit-in, where metered parking spaces are transformed into urban parks for the day.  The whole day was serendipitous to say the least... here's a recap.

With borrowed furniture from The Hive, we got set up around 10am in front of Burger Lounge in Little Italy.  Leslee from the San Diego Architectural Foundation provided the foliage.  Zack and Dave pictured above, blowing up the interweb.

It didn't take long for Officer Rasberry to notice something out of the ordinary on her block... Luckily Dave Brown smooth talked us out of a citation.

Salon Tonic came out and gave hair cuts on the side walk, while confused tourists snapped pictures from double-decker buses.

Dave Brown slapping some skin with an appoving mini driver.

The day capped with an impromptu performance from the one and only Steve Poltz.  Man that guy can work a crowd... watch for yourself.

A big thanks to everyone who came out to visit, especially; Greg for the NewGrass, Burger Lounge for free lunch, Numero for the waters and Officer Rasberry for not giving us a ticket..!

For more PARK(ing) Day coverage; check out Carly's photos here, the Union Tribune's interview here or our cameo on GOOD Magazine's website here.
