Brain Glamor : Sneak Preview

After a week and a half on the road, Morgan Blair arrived in San Diego Monday afternoon.  In between Home Depot runs and trips to Amvet's, Morgan has been cranking on an eight by six foot panel.  The Luce Loft's glass door has provided some interested onlookers, from East Village transients to a San Diego tour group of 30 people.

Check out a few in progress photos below, and be sure to cruise by this Friday or Saturday between 6-10pm.

Morgan Goes Pacific : The Southwest

We meant to camp after Texarkana but Big Spring Texas did not have a campsite as we thought it did, so we saw a sweet sunset instead and stayed in a motel in Midland (home of George and Barbara Bush... ha) with walls painted the exact color of nacho cheese and faux wood panels in the bathroom.

In the morning we went to a couple Salvation Armys and bought a ton of new old VHSs (including "AWESOME MINING!"), drove up to the Texas/Mexico border on a road that could not have been a public way (see comical GPS depiction), snapped a picture, and booked it into New Mexico.

Our plans to finally camp were thwarted again, this time by a lightning storm.  We pulled over to watch some lightning in the distance, everything became bathed in golden light, and then this RIDICULOUS (double) RAINBOW appeared before our eyes.  It was like a Thomas Kinkade painting, totally preposterous.  Border patrol rolled up to see what we were up to, and I told him we were just taking pictures of the rainbow, did he seem them?  I don't think he did, or he just had Mexico on the brain and didn't answer.

After that we stayed at Sand's Motel in Socorro, New Mexico, where there was a piece of paper in the bathroom labeled "BATH MAT" and two dollars in the microwave.  From there we drove into Arizona and CAMPED at Homolovi State park, which was amazing.  We made eggs in the morning and drove to the Grand Canyon, which was just okay.  Oops wait... it was ridiculous.  Like the rainbow, this massive, brain-boggling illusion that we didn't want to leave.  And I was amazed at the hoards of people clamoring towards the edge of it, unphased by the vast drop off inches past their Tivas.

Last night we stayed in Needles, California at the River Valley Motor Lodge, and now we are sitting on our friend Lauren's balcony in Hollywood eating chips and having "a beer".  These palm trees are pretty lush.  San Diego tomorrow!

Morgan Goes Pacific : The South

Lots of stuff has kind of happened since our first day.  Michael's friend Chris who we stayed with the second night took us on the 900 ft zipline they have where he works as a wilderness guide dude.  I noted to myself as I was stepping off the platform that it was probably best that we were doing it first thing in the morning before we had our wits about us.  It was pretty awesome.

Then we drove to Tennessee, bought a popcorn jigsaw puzzle at a thrift store, drove all the way across the state and ended up at a motel near Memphis where we found some booger-bug hybrids on the doorframe to the bathroom.  Like, picture if you found a slug, and then when you went to scrape it away with a hotel coat hanger it came apart with the consistency of a booger.  That's what it was like.  Then this morning we drove into Mississippi a little to visit Graceland Too, but were disappointed when the guy didn't answer his door, even after we spent 15 minutes skulking around his sidewalk looking at his blue christmas tree collection.

We crossed the Mississippi and stopped to collect some gas and flowers sometime after that, then ducked into Arkansas to buy some peaches and tomatoes from a man who looked just like the orchid guy in Adaptation.  Hot Springs was sort of a bust, but while I was on the phone trying to reassure Bank of America that I really was in Arkansas, Michael got hilariously dissed when he tried to make small talk with a totally disinterested woman pouring hot spring water into her rubber boots.

After that, I panicked about time, he bought an extreme-American pride energy drink, and again instead of camping we drove on to Texarkana, where we are now in a motel watching Roseanne.  Tomorrow we are checking out a Goodwill and venturing further into Texas, where I intend to find an armadillo, some postcards, and FINALLY camp.  Our windshield bug smattering, rearview mirror flower conglomeration, and babyfood jar soil collections are growing nicely.  I think we might make it to San Diego.

We are enthused.

Morgan Goes Pacific : Departure

We ended up leaving Brooklyn at a ripe 6pm, got stuck in wicked traffic in Soho, made it out of NY, through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and through a torrential downpour to Maryland.  We're at my friend Charlie Immer's awesome house in Hagerstown.  Tomorrow we might swing back through Baltimore to check out the current show at Nudashank and visit a friend of Michael's, then proceed to or through West Virginia and finally camp.  My mom packed us some mini boxes of cereal, so I'm pretty excited to eat Frosted Flakes out of a little wax paper pouch inside a perforated cardboard box, like we did when I was little.  Not much has happened yet, except that we sat up on a really high part of Charlie's roof and there were bats.  I got four hours of sleep last... morning and am beat so now I will retire to this air mattress.  Cool!

Artist Series and Online Shop

After years of garage screen printing and teasing our friends with very limited-run apparel, Sezio is launching an Artist Series and online shop.  We're honored to kick things off with four good friends and incredibly talented artists: Wes Bruce, Andrew Heine, Joel P West, and Mike Maxwell.

Each has adapted one of their original pieces of artwork into a t-shirt screen for this series.  The profit from each shirt will be split evenly with the artist, providing an added source of income for participating artists and furthering Sezio's reach as a non-profit organization.  Click through to our retail home and style out your summer.
