Belly Up Contest : Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros sold out this week's Belly Up show in less than an hour.  I guess word traveled around town quickly about how awesome their last performance was.  The fine folks at Belly Up are holding a pair of tickets for Sezio (unfortunately we're going to SF for Hot Chip / The XX and Yeasayer) so we're leaving the tickets up for grabs.  Here's the catch:

We'd like to see an artistic rendering of the band's name.  Draw, Paint, Capture or Photoshop a literal representation of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.  Submit your entry to info@sezio.org by 11:55pm on Wednesday. The winning entry will be announced via twitter and facebook Thursday morning at 10am.

*Winner Announced

Congrats to Angela Nguyen and her clever sketch entitled 'E-Sharpe'.

Sezio To Preview New Designs At Thread

We spent all week burning screens and collecting new summer colored blanks in anticipation for tomorrow's Thread Show.  Working with our most recently featured artists, Exist 1981 and Jolby, we have a new batch of screens that we're really excited to print.  Below are a couple examples and all the details about Thread:

Thread Show is tomorrow from 11-5pm in an abandoned department store in Horton Plaza (above Sam Goody).  Details here.

We'll also be previewing a set of San Diego neighborhood tees, designed by Josh Boston specifically for our Bar Basic event on Tuesday.  Be the first to proudly rep your hood..!

Yeller Zine Swap : Call For Entries

Yeller is getting together in the Subtext Courtyard again next month and this time, everyone is welcome to attend as both a guest and as an artist.  This gathering is a zine swap and differs from a standard art show in that instead of having priced work, the economy is zine-for-zine.  The basic idea is that you come up with a zine and make several copies to bring to the swap.  For an hour or two, all the zines are on display to browse through and at the end of the night you ask to swap zines with whoever made ones that you liked.  If you didn't bring a zine but want someone else's, you can strike up a deal to trade something else (money is out of the question).  It's a pretty great way to spend an evening with friends and new friends, and one of my favorite parts about the medium is that my favorite zines usually come from people whose name I've never seen on a gallery window.

All you need to make a zine is a Saturday, a photocopy machine, and a stapler, and zines range from serious to funny to abstract, from illustration to poetry to photography to collage to found writing to general randomness, so don't even try and pull the "I'm not an artist" excuse.

You can sign up to bring a zine here.  The deadline is April 2nd and space may be limited.

GrabbaBeast

Keeping with our beast themed content this week, I'm stoked to feature a project that our February featured artist(s) Jolby worked on.  Tangible Worldwide employs Josh and Colby up in Portland, and you can see hints of their work littered throughout this new project.  GrabbaBeast let's you create your own beast in under a minute.  With endless options for customization, the site is super slick and a good time waster on a Friday afternoon.  Check out this promo video the Tangible team made of the beasts taking over the streets of PDX.

Here's my beast.  I named him Gnar-Dog.  Make your own here!

Exist 1981 Scavenger Hunt Winners!

Three Adventurers took the challenge, the clues and answered the Zelda riddles from our Exist 1981 feature that went up yesterday, and found the beasts! Despite deep water and darkness they ventured in, got their picture, and now they will receive their prizes. Even though you future sewer seekers won't get any official goods, I would say that the journey through the tunnels is prize enough for a night time or early morning adventure that would make the Goonies swoon.

I'm pretty impressed with these three people. To find the beasts within 24 hours was no easy challenge. As promised each winner will be receiving the following prizes:

///Guest List + 1 for Washed Out / Small Black (March 25th)

///A Limited Edish Sezio T-shirt

///Two Exist 1981 T-shirts

///Tons of Exist & Sezio stickers

///Unlimited high-fives at any/ all Sezio/ Exist events forever

///A truck load of street cred

Here's our brave winners as they came in:

Bryan Bologna: Solo Mission: 6:12 Pm 3/15/10

Natalie Kardos: Tag Team Mission: 7:47am 3/16/10

Lucas O'connor: Tag Team Mission: 7:47am 3/16/10

Good adventuring and keep checking the sight for our next scavenger hunt. Who knows where the next one will take you...
