As Wes mentioned in an interview with Fox 5 San Diego, it's not a fort until you have a sleepover in it. Going by those standards, Bruce's 20+ room fort at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido will be official christened this Friday evening / Saturday morning. The museum is not only hosting a slumber party in Wes' fort, but also a private concert from Joel P West (who scored the background music for Wes' installation) and Meg & Bryan, with story interludes from Andrew Gumm. The concert has an entry fee of $15 dollars, $10 for museum members. If you want to crash the slumber party, that will cost you $50 large, but you get dinner and breakfast included! Those of you who came to Morgan Blair's opening in San Diego last year, know that she has a fondness for nostalgia, for old VHS tapes, and specifically for the early 90s classic, Home Alone. Recently Dustin Ortiz, our first featured artist and ex-Senior Designer at Nixon, moved to New York. We met up for lunch before he left, and I gave him a Sezio t-shirt Morgan had designed, explaining to him how he needed to meet up with her in NYC. The shirt's neck label contained some background info about Morgan, and an open call for a very specific mural installation.
In case you can't read the fine print, half way down reads:
She is currently looking for a good wall in which to paint a blown up pixelated still of Macaulay Culkin holding a rifle in Home Alone. If you have this wall, feel free to find and contact Morgan at http://morganblair.com.
Within weeks of moving across the country, Dustin contacted Morgan and offered her a 13 by 10 foot wall in his Brooklyn apartment. Five months, twenty colors, and 4,800 pixels later, Morgan completed This Is It, Don't Get Scared Now, titled after the very words Kevin McCallister utters before shooting Harry (Joe Pesci) in the crotch through the doggy door.
The unveiling of this masterpiece will happen this Saturday from 7-9pm. If you're in New York, I highly recommend you see this in person and give Morgan a huge high-five from us! We have been hard at work this week prepping Sushi Art for Four Day Weekend, loading in couches, rugs, lamps and pennant flags. We've also be working on a surprise for Sushi's gallery space, a pop-up shop collaboration with our friends at Jedidiah Clothing. Filled with fresh gear from our artist series and Jedidiah's holiday collection, the retail experience also features a 3D and 2D art exibit by Wes Bruce. There will be an opening reception from 6-9pm tonight, with the day time store hours listed on the flyer below.
Cruise by on your lunch break or after work to grab some early Christmas presents! Also, FM 94/9 will be posted up outside today (Wednesday) from 12-1pm giving away free tickets to Four Day Weekend during one of their Random Acts of Kindness.

Kelsey Brookes teamed up with local rockers, Grand Tarantula, on a one-of-a-kind 7 inch vinyl. The debut release for the band, and for local label Pretty Awesome Records has a charitable side as well. Proceeds from tonight's release event at El Dorado, and from record sales will be donated to Keep-A-Breast foundation.
D/Wolves will kick off tonight's festivities around 10pm, with Grand Tarantula to follow. There will be live painting by Exist 1981, and a huge raffle with prizes from Vestal, Sanuk, Pony, and yours truly.
