Dagart Allison's Twitter Tour

Before I knew Dagart Allison, I saw him about everywhere around town.  Keeping true to his nomadic ways, Dagart is taking the month of May to busk around San Diego.  Announcing the day's performance hours prior via Twitter, Dagart has recently played for crowds in Ocean Beach, North Park and as far north as Silverlake (LA).  Check out Dagart's tunes here, and then follow him on twitter so you can catch the next show...

Akron/Family : Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free

Most bands would break up if their lead vocalist split town.  The remaining members of Akron/Family, however, used the opportunity to experiment with new players, sounds and engineers; the result being one heck of an album that I just downloaded.

Check out "River" and grab your copy here

MVM : Eels

Whenever I see luchadores I am conditioned to crave Lucha Libre near my house. Apparently even at 8 a.m. Monday mornings. Check out Joaquin Phoenix, I mean Mark Oliver Everett creep on a senorita in Eels' new video for "Fresh Blood".

Crocodiles Release 'Summer of Hate'

Fat Possum Records, home to Andrew Bird & AA Bondy, seem to be picking through San Diego bands lately.  After releasing Wavves' debut, they've recently snatched up the Crocodiles as well.  You can grab your copy of 'Summer of Hate' next Monday (05.11) at The Casbah, before the band heads out on a two month US tour with Holy Fuck.

Black Mamba 12 Inch EP Release

It's exciting to know that two of the bands I'm into the most right now are from San Diego, and even more exciting that they are playing together at the Casbah tonight.  Black Mamba has been working hard on an EP and thanks to the relentlessly-on-top-of-their-shit people at Single Screen, we get to hear the debut from a turntable.  I was able to sneak a listen to their test pressing and have been craving the songs ever since.  If you haven't seen them or The Paddleboat yet, tonight is a perfect chance to hear how good San Diego is sounding lately; Drew Andrews and Tape Deck Mountain are icing on the cake.  Five bucks to get in, bring some extra cash for vinyl.
