The legendary annual Sasquatch Festival takes place in Washington State this weekend and I'm heading up to check in on the Northwest music scene and get a couple nights under the stars. I haven't been for a couple of years and although the festival is looking more like Coachella every year, the base idea of showcasing independent musicians, particularly those in the Portland and Seattle music communities, in a gorge-ous setting isn't gone completely. I'm looking forward to sets from Animal Collective, Of Montreal, The Dodos, Grizzly Bear, M. Ward, and hopefully some new favorites. There are a few disposable cameras in my suitcase and I'll be bringing evidence of the weekend back to share with the Southerners.

Though Calico Horse has recently become a staple at all our favorite San Diego venues, we're about to be reminded not to take good things for granted. Emily is moving to San Francisco in a couple weeks and although the band is not calling it quits, we'll have to get used to not seeing them on any bills for a while. Come by tonight to see Emily off and catch the last Calico set for the next bit.

Not too long ago I posted the song "Old Panda Days" from Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and fell in love with their music. Spent e-mailed me their video for "White Corolla" and I'm now in love with illustrator/animator Julia Pott. Check out the video then visit Julia's etsy site for a sweet postcard.

If you don't own Hymns for a Dark Horse by Bowerbirds, then you have been missing out... Big Time. Their much awaited sophomore release is on the horizon, with a full US tour to follow. The North Carolina based three piece will be hitting San Diego August 5th, supported by Megafaun and our very own Joel P West at The Casbah.
Northern Lights is a marvelous sneak peek into their July 7th release, Upper Air. Stream and/or download below, and be sure to get your tickets early for the August show.

I like homemade videos..of the music video genre. Ou Est Le Swimming Pool's video for "Dance The Way I Feel" is all about that. It reminds me of being on the Triceratron set for some reason. Stoked these Brits are keeping my party alive into the work week, I'm gonna need it.
