MVM : Darwin Deez

My friend Dustin up in San Francisco turned me on to the infectious pop songs of Darwin Deez earlier this year, but I didn't check out his music video catalog until recently.  There's really no way to explain the absurdity in these two videos, so you'll have to watch for yourself:

Grab his debut album on iTunes here.

Writer, Cuckoo Chaos @ The Loft (UCSD)

Our event-packed month is finally coming to an end, and we'll be going out with a bang with our first show on campus at UCSD's The Loft.  Curator, Elizabeth Bradshaw, was so pleased with our 2 Year anniversary party in June she asked that we bring the same artwork and bands on campus for the students to enjoy.

Thursday, September 30th Writer and Cuckoo Chaos will play The Loft celebrating the opening of Sezio's one month gallery exhibit.  Doors open at 8pm and the night is free for students ($5 for non-students).  If you're a member of The Loft or a Sezio Member, you're welcome to attend the preview hour (7-8pm), and your first drink will be on the house!  More details here.

MVM : Baths

The repetition of this soothing song by Baths is calming me down this morning. It's cathartic rhythm has proven to be more effective on a Monday morning than aimlessly spinning in my office chair. Please enjoy this music video for “Lovely Bloodflow” with me and pick up Baths' debut album Cerulean out now on anticon.

The Tree Ring Set To Record Debut Album

After one last practice tonight, The Tree Ring are heading up to Idyllwild.  Kelly Bennett, Douglas Welcome, Darla Hawn and Joel P West have been fine tuning a batch of 9 songs which will comprise their debut LP.  The Tree Ring will record in a set of two cabins over the next week plus, and then Joel will head over to Iceland to mix and master with the renowned 'Biggi' of Sigur Ros and Album Leaf fame.

After offering his last record (Dust Jacket) for free via art trade, Joel is calling on fans and friends to help fund this project by pre-ordering the record.  The Tree Ring is looking to raise about half of the total estimated costs, and they're putting together some pretty awesome prize packages for supporters.  Here's a message from Joel and the band:

$20 dollars gets you a limited edition screen print, the digital download and your choice of vinyl or a Tree Ring t-shirt.  $40 gets you both.  You can pledge your support on the Kickstarter page here, and while your waiting for the record to arrive, keep up with The Tree Ring here and preview a new track below:

MVM : Crocodiles

If I were to translate my love for Summer in a music video and then my utter horror that Autumn starts next Thursday in the last minute and thirty seconds of that same video, it might look a lot like Crocodiles' video for "Hearts of Love." ...I said might. Regardless of the hipster slaying and gnar gore, it's a good song and it's nice to see these San Diego residents showcasing some of the local scenery. (Can you spot OB's public restrooms?)

Crocodiles sophomore release, Sleep Forever, drops tomorrow on Fat Possum.  You can order a copy of the CD or Vinyl here, or pick up a copy at M Theory Records in San Diego.
