MVM : Summer Camp

I finally got back in the ocean this weekend after months of freezing waters and storm clouds. Summer is just about here and I am welcoming her with open arms and self tanner. This dreamy song and video from UK band Summer Camp is making it even harder to work today. Here is the song "Ghost Train" and cheers to beach daydreams on a Monday.

Washed Out, Small Black : Show Details

I'm so excited for this show I couldn't sleep, literally. It's 6am right now and I'm not an early riser.  Ever since Morgan Blair introduced us to Small Black during her stay at Luce Loft back in August, this show has been on our radar, and the day has finally come.  Here are a bunch of details for tonight's performance at Sushi Art + Small Black's DJ Set / After Party at Bar Basic:

Washed Out / Small Black / Pictureplane - Tonight @ Sushi Art

Doors open at 7:30pm

Pictureplane - 8:00pm

Small Black - 9:00pm

Washed Out - 10:00pm

If you purchased tickets online, your name will be on the guest list (+ the amount of tickets you purchased), so make sure your friends enter with you.  If you do not have tickets yet, get down there early!  This show will sell out.

After Party - Once the show is finished at Sushi, we'll migrate one block West to Bar Basic.  Small Black will be doing a DJ Set from 12:00am - 1:00am.  The event is FREE and 21+ only.

Yeller Zine Swap : Call For Entries

Yeller is getting together in the Subtext Courtyard again next month and this time, everyone is welcome to attend as both a guest and as an artist.  This gathering is a zine swap and differs from a standard art show in that instead of having priced work, the economy is zine-for-zine.  The basic idea is that you come up with a zine and make several copies to bring to the swap.  For an hour or two, all the zines are on display to browse through and at the end of the night you ask to swap zines with whoever made ones that you liked.  If you didn't bring a zine but want someone else's, you can strike up a deal to trade something else (money is out of the question).  It's a pretty great way to spend an evening with friends and new friends, and one of my favorite parts about the medium is that my favorite zines usually come from people whose name I've never seen on a gallery window.

All you need to make a zine is a Saturday, a photocopy machine, and a stapler, and zines range from serious to funny to abstract, from illustration to poetry to photography to collage to found writing to general randomness, so don't even try and pull the "I'm not an artist" excuse.

You can sign up to bring a zine here.  The deadline is April 2nd and space may be limited.

MVM : Devendra Banhart

Finally a new psychedelic video worth chatting about, is Devendra Banhart's music video for "Baby." This is what happens when cool famous dudes hang out together (MGMT, GZA). Hotness.

Postcards from the Southwest

The local music scene was a little slow this past week, due to a mass exodus of SD bands traveling to Austin for South by Southwest.  Writer and Tape Deck Mountain toured there and back together, and were nice enough to check in with us from the desert.  Niether band was very long winded, but both did showcase some artistic skills on their Southwest themed postcards.

A postcard from The Paddle Boat was lost in the mail.  Apparently said postcard contained a detailed account of Dave Meade accidentally robbing a late night taco joint.  You'll have to ask the band for the recap.
