Sezio Launches Membership Program

Six months in the making, and the week has finally arrived: Sezio is ready to launch its inaugural membership program.  With a goal of giving all of you more involvement and ownership in the content we create and the events we host, this 2010 Membership Kit is far more than a t-shirt, decal and card.  It's an invitation into our family, a challenge to help us continue to push San Diego forward creatively, and to build a larger arts and music community.

For helping us complete this mission, your reward comes in the white Sezio Membership Card you see above.  This card unlocks insider deals at a number of partner locations around San Diego.  Partners who share our goals for this city, and have pledged their financial support to see that they are achieved.  Present your Sezio Membership Card with identification at the following locations:

The Casbah - $1 off cover charge.

Starlite - 10% off your entire bill (Sunday through Thursday).

Riviera Supper Club - 10% off your entire bill.

Subtext Gallery - 10% off books and art prints.

After a couple months, this card should replenish the $50 dollars you spent on the membership.  We'll be adding venues to this list throughout 2010, and introducing a more robust list in 2011.

The Membership Kit, including the t-shirt above, was designed and curated by Justin Skeesuck.

We're only selling 500 memberships for 2010, with those initial 500 members having priority on 2011's offering.  Your first chance to sign up will be this Wednesday at Starlite during our Membership Launch Party.  2010 Memberships will include a limited edition t-shirt, a Sezio Crest car decal, and a numbered 2010 Membership Card.  Memberships will cost $50 dollars, cash or check is preferred.  Your $50 dollars is a tax deductible donation too!

Beer Art! : Beach to Brewery Winners

As usual, we never know quite what to expect from our art contests, but we seem to always be pleasantly surprised by the results.  Our two winners will receive a pair of tickets each to this Saturday's Beach to Brewery  Beer + Music Fest hosted by Karl Strauss.

Jaime Aoyama, of Studio Aiuto in Encinitas, turned a year long recycling project into an Aztec inspired installation using 237 bottles and 110 pounds of glass.  View a larger photo here

Our next winner is titled Sr. Monstro, constructed from two PBR tall cans by Beckri Eguez.  Her email noted that the contest gave her a good excuse to put back a couple beers this week.

Congrats to both of our winners!  If your entry wasn't chosen, or you just heard about the contest now - you can still buy tickets online until 2pm Friday.  Visit Karl Strauss for more details.

Karl Strauss : Beach to Brewery Contest

Each year, an exodus of beach cruisers depart from the Pacific Beach library and wind back to the Karl Strauss Brewery for an afternoon of day-drinking and live music. This years event boasts an all local lineup with some of our favorites; The Silent Comedy, Writer, The Howls and Stranger. Combine that with 21 craft brews on tap, celebrating KS's 21st anniversary, and you've just found out what you're doing on Saturday...

The fine folks at Karl Strauss gave us two pairs of tickets to give away, and we have an interesting art project / contest in mind. We're looking for submissions of an art piece (sculpture, installation, etc.) made from beer related materials. Could be bottle caps, empty cases, wheat, kegs... get creative. Take a photo or video of your creation and email it to info@sezio.org by Thursday at 11:55pm. We'll announce the two winners Friday morning. Email us with any questions.

If you're too busy to get creative this week, pick up your $25 dollar tickets here - add an extra $15 to that and Surfrider will throw in a year membership!

Black Mamba Debuts New Music Video

I haven't seen a music video this beautifully paired with a song in a while. This makes me even more excited to see Black Mamba open for Joel P West and The Tree Ring tomorrow night at MCASD, La Jolla. Huge props and video credits go out to Josh Hassin (Direction), Franck Deron (Editing & Photography) and Rebecca and Kevin Joelson (Photography).

MVM : M.I.A.

M.I.A., or Maya herself, will be twittering all day via Pitchfork following this morning's fresh new video release for her single "Born Free." I wasn't going to post it at first watch since it is extremely graphic and violent. Don't say I didn't warn you! You might wanna save this one for when you get home.
