Our good friends at Set & Drift asked me to compile a mix tape of songs that molded who I am today. The residents of 2114 Ebers St. and the music they created did just that.
“The addictions need to be fed,
in the white house that we live in.
Water pours in, as we’re dancing.
In other people’s eyes, we’re drowning.”
Sezio sprouted from a group of artists and musicians living in a white house on Ebers street in Ocean Beach, Ca. The creative, collaborative mindset of its residents spread contagiously to visitors and passer-bys. At any given hour there was screen printing in the garage, painting on the front porch and a jam session in the living room or on the roof. Luckily, Andrew Heine’s Pro Tools was running around the clock, and almost all of it was recorded.
This group of tracks has shaped my current musical taste. The warmth of the house combined with the organic sounds of plane engines and doors creaking make you feel like you are sitting in the room… and I was.
Track Listing:
01 – “Wish You Well” by Andrew, Jim & Leah
02 – “Lay Back Down (It’s Easy)” by Dogcatcher
03 – “All At Once” by Dogcatcher
04 – “Morning Smile” by Pretty Too Bad
05 – “Pictures And Such” by Pretty Too Bad
06 – “An Ocean Beach Afternoon” by Brian Holwerda
07 – “Battle Hymn Of My Republic” by Brian Holwerda
08 – “Firehouse House Fire 1939″ by Demasiado
09 – “The Mean We” by Demasiado

It's been a month of hot 8-hour van rides and The Donkeys are five shows away from the final stretch of road that will bring them home. Pray for traveling mercies and make sure to have a pint (16 oz) ready when they return.

The Bowerbirds are one of my favorites right now and just happen to be coming to the Casbah this Wednesday. Both albums, old and new, are awesome and worth a listen. Here is the music video for "In Our Talons" from their first album Hymns For A Dark Horse - complete with awkwardly romantic praying mantises.
Actual praying mantis = not that loving

Men shave your beards and ladies grab a sharpie because everyone needs a mustache to get into El Dorado tonight. In an effort to engage their many die-hard fans and to help fund what's going to be an amazing record, The Silent Comedy is hosting Mustache Mayhem this evening. There will be drink specials, raffle prizes (from sezio), and a photobooth to submit your mustache picture, which will be included in their album packaging. Here's the breakdown and a couple photos that have already been submitted. See you at El Dorado tonight.

Put your worries to rest, The Donkeys have sent word home that they are alive and well on their month-long tour with Magnolia Electric Company. It's good to hear from four of San Diego's finest gentlemen, and we'll be excited to welcome them back to an SDMA nominations for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year for their latest, Living on The Other Side. Congratulations boys!
