The first night, June 1st, features two bands we've been trying to book for a long time, Eternal Summers and Oberhofer. Noah and the Whale caught our attention a couple years back with their sophomore release, Peaceful the World Lays Me Down, and the film that they released to accompany the album. Here's the trailer below, which features the song, "Blue Skies."
One thing that Noah and the Whale can never be accused of is having released the same album twice. When trying to describe what this band sounds like, it is impossible to pinpoint an answer, seeing as with every album release everything about their music changes pretty dramatically. The First Days of Spring is slow and melancholic, Peaceful the World Lays Me Down is happy with a child-like intensity, and their newest release, Last Night On Earth, is their most uplifting album to date, probably helped out by the synth they've thrown into the instrumentation to accompany the familiar acoustic guitar and violins. This new album feels like a solid blend between the first two, and a mixture of all three can be witnessed tomorrow night when they play the San Diego Woman's Club, located in Banker's Hill. After catching So Many Wizards live at Dirty Gold's EP release show, we immediately started chatting with their lead singer Nima about getting them back down to San Diego. An opening slot for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and TV Girl seemed like the perfect fit. Have a listen to So Many Wizards brand new single "Inner City" below and their beautiful track "Nico" here. There are some local bands that you know won't be sticking around their home town for long. You're always excited to catch them live, and look forward to the day when you can tell your friends "I saw them at the most insane house party on New Years" or "That guy used to serve me drinks at Turf Club". Cuckoo Chaos is definitely one of those bands, and we're thrilled but also a little bit sad to see them go. With a debut 7" and EP forthcoming from Lefse Records, and Tom Windish of the Windish Agency signing them last month, expect Scott, Jackson, Jeremy, Dave and Garrett to be road warriors for the rest of this year.
For a proper send off, we booked Cuckoo Chaos at this Saturday's Beach To Brewery Fest at Karl Strauss. Cruise out for some delicious beer tasting and a stacked lineup of local favorites. If you're not in San Diego, Cuckoo's tour dates with Anna Calvi are listed below along with their debut single "Jesus Flag American Fish".
