Faces On Film @ Habitat House

Mike Fiore (far right) is the voice and songwriting behind Boston-based Faces On Film. Their steady, driving songs matched with Fiore's echoed vocals remind me of a mix between Vetiver and My Morning Jacket. Have a listen to their brilliant sophomore relase, Some Weather, and be sure to pop into Habitat House at 8pm this Wednesday (03.02) for a special solo performance.

Sic Alps : Soda Bar This Sunday

I've been addicted to Sic Alps quirky, psychedelic garage rock for the past few months. When they came out with their new record, I was excited to indulge in a fresh album of  twenty-two uncomfortable yet enticing tracks filled with short-lived hooks and melodies. I first saw them this past summer at Serra Bowl with fellow San Francisco garage-rockers Thee Oh Sees and the Fresh and Onlys, which was a perfect venue to experience their music. Their lo-fi style of garage rock fit right in with the mass of amps stacked in the bowling alley arcade. "Cement Surfboard" from their new album Napa Asylum is defnitely a song I am looking forward to hearing at the Soda Bar this Sunday.

Dum Dum Girls, Minks, Dirty Beaches

Hey Dummy! I'm talking to you! Drop by The Casbah this Friday night (02.18) to catch Dum Dum Girls. You might remember Kristin Gundred (aka Dee Dee Dum Dum) hanging up clothes at The Buffalo Exchange on 5th Ave a couple years back..now see her on her (kindof) hometown stage in those famous striped tights with the rest of the Dum Dum Girls, and get dum over their smart, skuzzy, girl group garage rock. The opening acts are nothing to scoff at either. The pretty, gauzy noise of Brooklyn-based Minks, layered with dreamy emphatic vocals will hurt your heart in a good way, while the one man band who is Dirty Beaches will have you convinced you're listening to the slightly psychedelic apparition of Johnny Cash, backlight by dusty lamp shades and slowed down with the aid of a glass full of good, smooth, room temperature whiskey. - Crystal Clem

Grab your tickets for the show here. If you're not yet of age you can catch Dirty Beaches at M-Theory Records at 6pm, also this Friday.

Dirty Beaches - "Lord Knows Best" (Daytrotter)

Dum Dum Girls - "Bhang Bhang, I'm A Burnout"
