2009 : A Year in Review

It's pretty amazing what can be accomplished in a year.  2009 was a busy 12 months for Sezio, so we figured it would be fun to take a look back before we move on to 2010...

Our year started with a fiesta at Luce Loft during January's ASR.  Hacer featured live screen printing, pinatas dropping from the roof and the cuban inspired artwork of Tocayo.

In March, we hosted 10 of our favorite San Diego bands for a week of amazing music and community gathering during Live @ Luce Loft.

Summer was booked with travel plans and music festivals.  We were lucky enough to score press passes to Sasquatch, Outside Lands and Pitchfork.

We screen printed 100s of t-shirts and curated two art shows at THREAD in San Francisco and San Diego (twice).

We hosted our first Artist Exchange with Brooklyn illustrator Morgan Blair.

We sent disposable cameras on the road with a number of San Diego bands, including Crocodiles, The Vision of a Dying World, Irradio and Black Mamba.

We launched an Artist Line with our retail partners Jedidiah Clothing.

Our year ended up where we began, in San Diego's East Village. Sezio and Single Screen Records hosted The Paddle Boat's record release @ Sushi Art.

Thanks to everyone who came out to an event, wrote us an email or bought a t-shirt.  Without the local creative community, Sezio would be nothing.  We're really excited about what's in store for 2010, so stay tuned... all we can announce now is a BIG celebration at Casbah on Thursday, January 21st.

Until then... Happy New Years!

MVM : Hot Chip

When Zack and I did our test run on Legit Radio last Friday I was most excited about playing Hot Chip's super new song "One Life Stand." I can't stop playing it  and can hardly wait til the new album drops February 1st.

Writer to Premiere Music Video and New Songs at Whistle Stop

Back in July, Brad Kester worked out the final kinks in what ended up being a several-month scheduling process for a Writer music video he had dreamed up.  The basic idea was waterskiing, preferably without water skis, and finding a place to do it turned out to be a project in itself.  Through a series of phone calls, Brad got connected with this guy, who runs a camp in Mexico.  The brothers Ralph, along with filmmakers Brad Kester and Destin Cretton, loaded up Darth for a trip south:

The video will be premiered this Friday night as a part of Writer's annual Christmas Whistle Stop show.  Black Mamba opens at 9 PM.

MVM : Small Black

Carly got tatted yesterday, and has been crying about her ribs hurting... so I'm stepping in to post an MVM.  This Music Video Monday comes from Brooklyn bangers, Small Black.  Their video features the lead singer (Josh's) uncle, who obviously is the coolest guy in America.  See for yourself.

Tocayo + Exist 1981 = 'Super' El Camino

A week before the Grand Opening, we popped into the once Airport Lounge and soon-to-be El Camino to find Juan (Tocayo) and Abe (Exist 1981) drinking Coronas and wheatpasting like mad men, while co-owner Mauricio was touching up a metallic gold skull.

While touring the new digs, Mauricio chatted us up about his floral patterned stools, new air hockey table and how he and Juan initially met.  We walked out a half an hour later knowing we just found our new favorite hang out in San Diego, and have been counting down the hours to Wednesday's opening ever since.  Until then here are a few photos and a rad video from Exist 1981.
